The mini hydraulic plants have very different applications depending on energy needs in the area where it is installed, although they are primarily used in the generation of electricity in order to sell it to the public network.

With mini hydraulic technologies, it is possible to take advantage of small waterfalls and flows of hydraulic infrastructures in operation that currently is not being done. Some examples are as follows:


  • Direct hydraulic exploitation of small natural waterfalls at certain existing locations in the rivers for power generation.
  • Use of flows that are not currently turbine in operational hydroelectric plants (ecological flows, discharge chute flows,…) with a consequent increase in efficiency and electricity production from the hydropower station.
  • Supply networks of drinking water with a significant waterfall. Integration into supply systems that allow replacing pressure reducing elements of the grid from power generating equipment.
  • Installations for the treatment of sewage streams from industrial and urban processes such as wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), and facilities for treatment and purification of water (ETAP). Recovery of the energy available for electricity production
  • Flows that circulate in constructed channels as water catchments and discharges from grinding mills or fish farms.
  • Infrastructures for irrigation. Energy use of hydraulic flow in the existent irrigation pipes slopes.
  • Rehabilitation and modernization of abandoned power plants or those that have already exceeded their useful life and are still operating below its optimal level with very low capacity.
